This Hasi majjige or plain raita is served as an accompaniment with Karnataka special "nuchinunde or nucchinunde". Nuchinunde is a spicy steamed dumplings prepared using broken dal and spices.

This recipe is posted with nuchinunde post. Nuchinunde and hasi majjige is a great combination and prepared traditionally across Bangalore-Mysore region of Karnataka.

Hasi majjige recipe

Preparation time: 10 mins
Cooking time: 5 min
Serves: 4

Ingredients: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 1 tbsp roasted gram or hurigadale
  2. 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  3. 1 - 2 green chili
  4. 1/4 " length ginger
  5. 1 tbsp coriander leaves
  6. 1/4 cup grated coconut
  7. 1 cup curd / yoghurt
  8. Salt as per your taste

Ingredients for tempering:

  1. 1 tsp cooking oil
  2. 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  3. 3 - 4 curry leaves
  4. A pinch of asafoetida

Instructions for making hasi majjige:

  1. Take roasted gram, mustard seeds, green chili, ginger, coriander leaves and coconut in a blender or mixer grinder.ingredients for hasi majjige for nuchinunde

  3. Transfer it to a bowl. Add in whisked curd and salt.curd and salt for hasi majjige for nuchinunde
