Halasina hannina gatti or jackfruit kadubu recipe explained with step by step pictures. Halasina hannina gatti is prepared using rice, coconut, jaggery and jackfruit. Halasina hannina gatti is a steamed breakfast recipe and is generally steamed in banana leaves. This is an instant and tasty breakfast item.

I have explained 2 types of jackfruit kadubu recipes. This first one is very popular in Mangalore - Udupi region of Karnataka and is familiar by name halasina gatti or gujje gatti. The second one is very popular in Malnad region of Karnataka and is familiar by name halasina hannina kadubu. Halasina hannina gatti and kadubu recipe

Preparation time: 1 hour
Cooking time: 30 min
Serves: 5

Ingredients for gatti: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 4 cups jackfruit or halasina hannu
  2. 1 cup rice
  3. 0.5 cup fresh grated coconut
  4. 1/4 cup jaggery (adjust as per your sweet leavel)
  5. Salt as per your taste
  6. Banana leaves

Ingredients for kadubu: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 4 cups jackfruit or halasina hannu
  2. 1 cup rice
  3. Salt as per your taste

Instructions for making halasina hannina gatti:

  1. Rinse and soak the rice for 30 minutes.rinsed rice for halasina hannina gatti or jackfruit kadubu
  2. Cut and separate the edible part of the jackfruit. Optionally you can chop them for easy grinding.rinsed rice for halasina hannina gatti or jackfruit kadubu
  3. Now take banana leaves and clean it thoroughly. Next either steam it or hold it on the stove top for few seconds. This is done to avoid breaking of the leaves while folding.banana leaves for halasina hannina gatti or jackfruit kadubu
  4. Take soaked rice, jackfruit, coconut, jaggery and salt in a mixie jar. Grind it into a fine batter, which is little coarse. Please note, you need not add any water while grinding.banana leaves for halasina hannina gatti or jackfruit kadubu
  5. Transfer it into the container. The batter shall have thick dropping consistency. If the batter is very thin, then you can add little rava to adjust the consistency.cucumber for halasina hannina gatti or jackfruit kadubu
  6. Next place a handfull of batter on one banana leaf.batter on banana leaf for halasina hannina gatti or jackfruit kadubu
  7. Next fold it like a packet. Please refer the image.batter inside the banana leaf for halasina hannina gatti or jackfruit kadubu
  8. Like this continue and finish making all the packets.steam cooking halasina hannina gatti or jackfruit kadubu
  9. Steam it for 30 minutes. Serve it with ghee or honey or coconut milk or coconut+coriander seeds chutney.steam cooking halasina hannina gatti or jackfruit kadubu

Instructions for making halasina hannina kadubu:

  1. Take soaked rice, jackfruit and salt in a mixie jar. Grind it into a fine batter, which is little coarse. In this version you can use required water for grinding.banana leaves for halasina hannina gatti or jackfruit kadubu
  2. Transfer it into a container. The batter shall have idli batter consistency.cucumber for halasina hannina gatti or jackfruit kadubu
  3. Next pour the batter into the plates and steam it for 30 minutes.batter on banana leaf for halasina hannina gatti or jackfruit kadubu
  4. Cut and Serve it with ghee and coconut+coriander seeds chutney.steam cooking halasina hannina gatti or jackfruit kadubu
