Kadlebele southekai kosambari or gram dal and cucumber salad recipe explained with step by step pictures and a video. Kadlebele kosambari or southekai kosambari is prepared using gram dal, cucumber and fresh grated coconut. This type of salad or kosambari is prepared during festivals and on any other special occasions.

This type of kosambari or salads are prepared and served in small quantities. It is a starter dish in a multicourse meal. Kosambari is prepared and distributed in temples and during Ramanavami festival. You can find one more hesaru bele and carrot kosambari on this website.

Kadlebele and southekai kosambari recipe

Preparation time: 2 hours
Cooking time: 5 min
Serves: 4

Ingredients: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 4 tbsp kadlebele or gram dal
  2. 1/2 cucumber finely chopped
  3. 2 tbsp fresh grated coconut
  4. 1/2 green chili chopped (optional; I didn't use)
  5. 1 tbsp finely chopped coriander leaves (optional; I didn't use)
  6. Salt as per your taste

Ingredients for tempering:

  1. 1 tsp cooking oil
  2. 1/4 tsp mustard seeds
  3. 1/2 red chili broken
  4. A pinch of asafoetida

Instructions for making kadlebele southekai kosambari:

  1. Soak 4 tbsp of kadlebele or gram dal for 2 hours. Add 1/4 tsp of salt while soaking.Soaking gram dal for kadlebele and southekai kosambari
  2. Finely chop the cucumber.finely chop the cucumber for kadlebele and southekai kosambari
  3. Take soaked gram dal, chopped cucumber and grated coconut in a bowl.soaked gram dal and cucumber for kadlebele and southekai kosambari
  4. Prepare tempering using oil, mustard, red chili and asafoetida. Add the tempering to the bowl and adjust the salt level. Optionally you can add chopped green chili and coriander leaves.tempering for kadlebele and southekai kosambari
