Cococnut milk and sweetened coconut milk recipe explained with step by step pictures and a video. Coconut milk is served along with some of dishes and also used as an ingredient in some of the recipes. Sweetened coconut milk is served as an accompaniment with neer dosa, holige, chiroti and many other dishes.

This coconut milk or tengina kayi haalu can be used just like regular milk. You can use this coconut milk is coffee, tea, sweets, curries, kheer, icecream, milkshake etc., Even though you can use store bought coconut milk, taste and aroma can not be matched with the home made fresh coconut milk. Also home made coconut milk is free from presevatives.

Coconut milk recipe

Serves: 1

Ingredients for coconut milk: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 1 cup grated coconut
  2. 1 cup water (can be varied depending on the thickness required)
  3. 1 tsp jaggery
  4. A pinch of salt
  5. A small pinch of cardamom powder (optional)

Instructions for making coconut milk:

  1. To begin with grate the coconut. You can also chop it.grate the coconut for coconut milk recipe
  2. Take grated coconut and around 1/2 cup of water in a mixie jar. Grind it until smooth paste.grind coconut for coconut milk recipe
  3. Place a clean cotton cloth or a fine mesh strainer over a bowl. Pour the ground coconut paste.filtering coconut paste for coconut milk recipe
  4. Squeeze it well. You get very thick coconut milk at this stage.squeezing kaayi haalu for coconut milk recipe
  5. Transfer the residue into the mixie jar and add another 1/2 cup of water. Grind it again.grinding for coconut milk recipe
  6. Sueeze or filter it again to get the coconut milk. This time you get thin coconut milk.squeezing the coconut milk recipe
  7. Mix or use the thick and thin coconut milk as per your requirement.thick and thin coconut milk
  8. Now add jaggery, salt, cardamom powder and mix well to prepare sweetened coconut milk. This can be served with neer dosa or holige.sweetened coconut milk
