Sankranti festival recipes | Karnataka style sankranti recipes

Sankranti is the most holy Hindu festival. Makara sankranti is one of the few ancient Hindu festivals that are observed according to solar cycles. Makar Sankranti festival is celebrated on January 14 every year, with some exceptions when the festival is celebrated on 15 January. According to the Hindu calendar, it is celebrated in the month of Magha. Makar Sankranti celebrates the sun's journey into the northern hemisphere, a period which is considered to be highly auspicious. And is called as "uttarayana punyakala".

Makara sankranti is also known as harvest festival. In Karnataka people will prepare "ellu-bella" and distribute to each other. Also many other delicacies like payasa, vade, obbattu (holige), many avarekalu recipes are prepared and the festival is celebrated with joy and happiness
