Chakoli or bele kadubu recipe explained with step by step pictures and a video. This is a tasty brreakfast or snacks prepared using wheat flour, toor dal, onion, tomato, green chilli, coconut, coriander leaves and spices.

Chakoli or bele kadubu is a north Karnataka delicacy. I have used asafoetida in this recipe, which you can relace it with garlic.

This is a very healthy snacks or breakfast recipe. Kids will enjoy this and it is much better than ready to cook pasta or noodles.

Chakoli recipe

Preparation time: 5 hours
Cooking time: 15 min
Serves: 8 no

Ingredients for the dough: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 1/2 cup wheat flour
  2. 1/4 cup water (pr as required)
  3. 1/4 tsp salt

Ingredients for the gravy: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 1/4 cup toor dal
  2. 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  3. 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  4. 1 green chilli, chopped
  5. 1 onion, chopped
  6. 1 tomato, chopped
  7. Big pinch turmeric
  8. A pinch of asafoetida
  9. /2 - 1 tsp red chilli powder
  10. 1/2 tsp garam masala powder
  11. 2 tbsp chopped coriander leaves
  12. 2 tbsp grated coconut
  13. 1 tsp salt or as per your taste
  14. 2 tbsp oil

Instructions for making chakoli or bele kadubu:

  1. Rinse and cook the dal until soft.cooking dal for chakoli or bele kadubu recipe
  2. Heat 2 tbsp oil in a pan. Add in mustard and cumin seeds. Wait until mustard seeds start to crackle.tempering for chakoli or bele kadubu recipe
  3. Add in choped green chilli and onion. Start frying under medium flame.green chilli and onion for chakoli or bele kadubu recipe
  4. Add in turmeric powder and asafoetida. Fry until onions turn soft.turmeric and asafoetida for chakoli or bele kadubu recipe

  6. Add in salt, red chilli powder and garam masala powder. Fry until tomatoes turn mushy.salt and spices for chakoli or bele kadubu recipe

  8. Also add in required water. Let it boil.water for chakoli or bele kadubu recipe
  9. Take wheat flour, water and salt in a bowl. Knead it into a soft dough.dough for chakoli or bele kadubu recipe
