Majjige kadubu recipe explained with step by step pictures and a video. This is a no dal, no poha, no rava and no fermentation instant breakfast recipe. This majjige kadubu is prepared using rice butter milk, onion ginger, green chilli, curry leaves, coriander leaves and a tempering. You can serve this easy rice breakfast with sambar or chutney.

This recipe is an improved easy version of unde kadubu or pundi gatti, which I have posted long ago. This majjige kadubu is a very healthy recipe and is a perfect recipe to finish off leftover curd or buttermilk. I have used low quality sona masoori rice or ration rice in this recipe. You can use any rice of your choice but you may have to adjust the water quantity.

Majjige kadubu recipe

Preparation time: 2 - 3 hours
Cooking time: 30 min
Serves: 3

Ingredients: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 1 cup rice (I have used low quality sona masoori)
  2. 1 cup thick buttermilk
  3. 1 cup water
  4. 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  5. 1 tsp urad dal
  6. 1 tsp gram dal
  7. 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  8. 1 onion chopped
  9. 1 green chili
  10. 1 tsp chopped ginger
  11. 1 tbsp chopped curry leaves
  12. 2 tbsp finely chopped coriander leaves
  13. A pinch of asafoetida
  14. 1 tsp salt (as per your taste)
  15. 1 tbsp cooking oil

Instructions for making majjige kadubu:

  1. Rinse the rice and drain the water completely.rice for majjige kadubu or idli
  2. Spread it on a cloth or plate and let it dry under shade. It takes around 2 hours, however you can leave it overnight ass well.dried rice for majjige kadubu or idli
  3. Once it is dry, coarse grind it using a mixer grinder. Just run the mixie for few seconds. The consistency should be like rice rava or idli rava. Keep it aside.home made rice rava for majjige kadubu or idli
  4. Kee the chopped inggredients like ginger, green chilli curry leaves, coriander leaves and onion ready.chopped ingredients for majjige kadubu or idli
  5. In a pan heat the oil. Add in mustard seeds, gram dal and urad dal.tempering for majjige kadubu or idli
  6. Wait until mustard seeds splutter. Add in chopped ingredients and give a quick mix.tempering for majjige kadubu or idli
  7. Add in asafoetida and fry until onions are soft.asafoetida for majjige kadubu or idli
  8. Add in rice rava and fry for 1 - 2 minutes. Switch off the stove.rice rava for majjige kadubu or idli
  9. Add in salt.salt for majjige kadubu or idli
  10. Wait until excess heat is reduced and add in a cup of water.water for majjige kadubu or idli
  11. Followed by add in a cup of thick buttermilk. Give a good mix.buttermilk for majjige kadubu or idli
  12. Transfer them into greased idli plates. You may have to mix the batter often while pouring it into the plates. Steam cook them for 15 minutes.batter in platess for majjige kadubu or idli
  13. Serve it with chutney or sambar.majjige kadubu or idli
