This harive soppina bajji or gojju recipe is prepared using amaranthus, mustard, red chili, tamarind, jaggery, salt and a tempering. This chutney goes very well with rice or chapati.

Harive soppina chutney recipe

Preparation time: 5 min
Cooking time: 15 min
Serves: 4

Ingredients: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 1 bunch harive soppu or dantina soppu
  2. 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  3. 2 - 4 red chillies
  4. 1/4 cup grated coconut
  5. Marble sized tamarind
  6. 1 tsp jaggery
  7. 1 tbsp cooking oil
  8. Salt as per your taste

Ingredients for tempering:

  1. 2 tbsp oil or ghee
  2. 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  3. 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  4. Pinch of turmeric
  5. Pinch of asafoetida

Instructions for making harive soppina chutney:

  1. Clean and roughly chop the harive soppu or amaranthus leaves.amaranthus leaves for harive soppina chutney or dantina soppu bajji
  2. Heat oil in a pan. Fry mustard and red chillies.mustard and red chillies for harive soppina chutney or dantina soppu bajji
  3. Add in chopped leaves and start frying under medium flame.chopped leaves for harive soppina chutney or dantina soppu bajji
  4. Add in salt and fry until soft.salt for harive soppina chutney or dantina soppu bajji
  5. Transfer it into a mixie jar.fried leaves for harive soppina chutney or dantina soppu bajji
  6. Add in coconut.coconut for harive soppina chutney or dantina soppu bajji
  7. Also add in jaggery and tamarind.jaggery and tamarind harive soppina chutney or dantina soppu bajji
  8. Grind it into a paste by adding required water.ground harive soppina chutney or dantina soppu bajji
  9. Prepare tempering with oil (or ghee), mustard and cumin seeds.tempering for harive soppina chutney or dantina soppu bajji
