Batani chat recipe

Preparation time: 1 day
Cooking time: 30 min
Serves: 4 plates

Ingredients for serving: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 2 onions finely chopped
  2. 2 tomatoes finely chopped
  3. 4 tbsp finely chopped coriander leaves
  4. 4 tbsp thin sev or plain sev
  5. 2 tbsp roasted peanuts or shenga (optional)

Ingredients for gravy: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 1/2 cup dried green peas
  2. 1/4 cup white chickpeas or kadlekaalu (otional)
  3. 1 potato
  4. 1/2 tsp fennel seeds
  5. 1 - 2 green chili
  6. 4 - 5 cloves of garlic
  7. 1 cm length ginger
  8. 1 onion chopped
  9. 1 tomato chopped
  10. 2 tbsp chopped coriander leaves
  11. 2 tbsp chopped mint or pudina leaves
  12. 1/2 tsp garam masala powder
  13. 1/2 tsp chaat masala
  14. 1/2 tsp cumin powder
  15. 1/4 tsp amchur powder
  16. Salt as per your taste
  17. 1/4 tsp black salt (optional)
  18. 1 tsp oil

Instructions for making batani chat:

  1. For making batani chat, to begin with soak dried green peas and white chickpeas for 5 hours or overnight.soaked peas for batani chat or green peas chaat recipe
  2. Take soaked green peas, white chickpeas and peeled potato in a pressure cooker. Add in required water and cook until soft. Making 2 - 3 whistles would be enough if the green peas is soaked properly.green peas, potato and carrot for batani chat or green peas chaat recipe

  4. Next heat oil in a pan and fry fennel seeds.onion, ginger and garlic for batani chat or green peas chaat recipe

  11. Add in all the spice powders like garam masala, chaat masala, cumin powder and amchur powder. You can replace amchur powder with tamarind juice.masala powders for batani chat or green peas chaat recipe
