Ulundogare or ullandogare recipe explained with step by step pictures and a video. Ulundogare is a fried urad dal rice. Ullandogare or urad dal rice is very tasty and is highly nutritious. Ullandogare is prepared using rice, urad dal, black pepper, red chilli, coconut and a simple tempering.

Ulundogare is yet another no-onion and no-garlic recipe like puliyogare. Very minimum ingredients are used in this recipe and is very easy to prepare.

Ulundogare recipe

Preparation time: 10 min
Cooking time: 20 min
Serves: 3

Ingredients: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 1/2 cup rice (I have used sona masuri)
  2. 1/4 cup grated coconut
  3. 4 tsp urad dal
  4. 2 - 4 red chilli
  5. 1/2 tsp black pepper
  6. 1/4 tsp ghee
  7. Salt as per your taste

Ingredients for tempering:

  1. 2 tbsp ghee or oil
  2. 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  3. Few cashews
  4. 4 - 6 curry leaves

Instructions for making ulundogare:

  1. Take rice in a cooker and rinse it well.rice for ulundogare or ullandogare recipe
  2. Add in required water and 1/4 tsp ghee.cooking rice for ulundogare or ullandogare recipe
  3. Cook until soft but not mushy. Fluff the cooked the rice and keep it aside.cooked rice for ulundogare or ullandogare recipe
  4. In a pan take urad dal, black pepper and red chillies.spices for ulundogare or ullandogare recipe
  5. Fry until urad dal turns golden brown. Wait until cool and make a semi-fine powder. Keep it aside.fried spices for ulundogare or ullandogare recipe
  6. Heat ghee in a pan. Add in mustard seeds.tempering for ulundogare or ullandogare recipe
  7. Wait until mustard seeds splutter, add in cashews and fry.cashews for ulundogare or ullandogare recipe
  8. Next add curry leaves and grated coconut. Fry them for a while and switch off the stove .curry leaves and coconut for ulundogare or ullandogare recipe
  9. Add in cooked rice and give a good mix.cooked rice for ulundogare or ullandogare recipe
