Kara boondi recipe explained with step by step pictures and a video. This kara boondi mixture or khara boondi is prepared using gram flour and few other spices. Kara boondi is a spicy and popular snacks loved by all.

Kara boondi is a special snacks prepared for festivals and other occasions. We always think that making boondi is a difficult job, atleast I was under that impression until I tried. Later I realized that making boondi is very easy. Even you will say the same if you follow this recipe.

Kara boondi recipe

Preparation time: 10 min
Cooking time: 10 min
Serves: 4

Ingredients: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 1 cup gram flour or besan or kadlehittu
  2. 1/2 tsp red chili powder
  3. Big pinch turmeric
  4. 1/2 tsp salt
  5. A generous pinch of asafoetida
  6. 1 tbsp hot oil
  7. Oil to deep fry

Ingredients for mixture: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 1/2 cup peanuts or shenga
  2. 1/2 cup roasted gram
  3. Some cashews
  4. Few curry leaves
  5. Salt as needed
  6. Red chilli powder as needed

Instructions for making kara boondi:

  1. Take gram flour or besan in a wide bowl.gram flour for kara boondi or khara boondhi mixture
  2. Add in red chili powder, turmeric powder, salt and asafoetida. Give a quick mix.spices for kara boondi or khara boondhi mixture
  3. Add in 1 tbsp of hot oil and mix well again.hot oil for kara boondi or khara boondhi mixture
  4. Now add in required water and prepare the batter. I have added little more than 1/2 cup of water.water for kara boondi or khara boondhi mixture
  5. Make sure the batter is not having any lumps.batter for kara boondi or khara boondhi mixture
  6. The batter shall have flowing consistency.batter for kara boondi or khara boondhi mixture
  7. Heat the oil in a wide frying pan. Check if the oil is hot enough by dropping little batter. The batter shall come up immediately.hot oil for making kara boondi or khara boondhi mixture
  8. Take a perforated laddle and pour the batter through it into the hot oil.making kara boondi or khara boondhi mixture
  9. Fry until bubbles are stopped.frying kara boondi or khara boondhi mixture
  10. Take out the boondi.fried kara boondi or khara boondhi mixture
  11. Make sure the perforated laddle is clean before making the next batch. If not boondi may loose the shape.laddle for making kara boondi or khara boondhi mixture
  12. Make boondi using remaining batter.fried kara boondi or khara boondhi mixture
  13. Fry peanuts and add it into the boondi.peanuts for kara boondi or khara boondhi mixture
  14. Fry roasted gram and add it into the boondi.roasted gram for kara boondi or khara boondhi mixture
  15. Also fry some cashews and curry leaves. Add them into the boondi.cashews and curry leaves for kara boondi or khara boondhi mixture
  16. Add in salt and red chilli powder if needed.salt and red chilli powder for kara boondi or khara boondhi mixture
  17. Give a quick mix and spicy boondi is ready to serve.kara boondi or khara boondhi mixture
