Rave sandige or rava fryum recipe explained with step by step pictures and a video. Rava sandige or sooji ka papad is prepared using rava, salt, and cumin seeds. Rava vadagam is very easy to prepare and turns out super crispy.

All these sun dried items are familiar by name either sandige or happala (papad) in Kannada language. Generally during summer, varieties of sandige and happala (papad) are prepared, stored and consumed throughout the year. Munching on some fryums or papads along with the lunch during cool-cool rainy or winter days is a bliss! You can serve these akki sandige along with lunch or as evening snacks for kids.

Both my Mother and Mother-in-law prepares a lot of fryums and papads every year. You can find few sandige and happala recipes on this website. Preparing rave sandige or rava papad is very easy. Boil the water with salt and cumin seeds. Mix in the medium rava, cook on the stove top and sun dry...that's it! You can get creative by adding spices of your choice like green chilli paste, red chilli flakes, asafoetida, ajwain etc.

Rava sandige recipe

Preparation time: 2 - 3 days
Cooking time: 10 min
Serves: 30

Ingredients: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 1/2 medium rava or upma rava
  2. 3.5 cups water (7 times)
  3. 1 tsp cumin seeds
  4. A big pinch of asafoetida (optional)
  5. 1/2 tsp salt or as per your taste

Instructions for making rava sandige:

  1. Measure and take water in a deep frying pan and keep it for boiling. I have used 3.5 cups (3 times) water..water for rave sandige or rava fryum or sooji ka papad
  2. Add in salt as per your taste.salt for rave sandige or rava fryum or sooji ka papad
  3. Next add in cumin seeds.cumin seeds for rave sandige or rava fryum or sooji ka papad
  4. Bring it to boil.boiling water for rave sandige or rava fryum or sooji ka papad
  5. Add in rava gradually by stirring continuously. I have added 1/2 cup of rava.rava for rave sandige or rava fryum or sooji ka papad
  6. Mix it well under medium flame until the rava is cooked. It takes around 5 mins.batter for rave sandige or rava fryum or sooji ka papad
  7. Once warm, it turns thick.batter for rave sandige or rava fryum or sooji ka papad
  8. Make fryums or sandige on a thick plastic sheet or a clean cloth.making rave sandige or rava fryum or sooji ka papad
  9. Keep it under sunlight for drying.drying rave sandige or rava fryum or sooji ka papad
  10. After 4 - 5 hours flip the fryums. You should be able to do this easily.drying rave sandige or rava fryum or sooji ka papad
  11. Continue drying under sunlight.drying rave sandige or rava fryum or sooji ka papad
  12. Next day transfer them into plates and continue drying under sunlight.drying rave sandige or rava fryum or sooji ka papad
  13. It will take 2 - 3 days to dry completely depending on the sunlight.dried rave sandige or rava fryum or sooji ka papad
  14. Once dried, heat the oil and deep fry the sandige. Serve it with lunch or dinner. You can also serve them like evening snacks for kids.fried rave sandige or rava fryum or sooji ka papad
