Avalakki sandige or poha fryum recipe explained with step by step pictures and a video. Avalakki sandige or poha papad is prepared using thin beaten rice, red chilli flakes, salt, carom seeds and cooking soda. Avalakki sandige or aval vadagam is very easy to prepare and turns out super crispy.

All these sun dried items are familiar by name either sandige or happala (papad) in Kannada language. Generally during summer, varieties of sandige and happala (papad) are prepared, stored and consumed throughout the year. Munching on some fryums or papads along with the lunch during cool-cool rainy or winter days is a bliss! You can serve these akki sandige along with lunch or as evening snacks for kids.

Both my Mother and Mother-in-law prepares a lot of fryums and papads every year. You can find few sandige and happala recipes on this website. Preparing rave sandige or rava papad is very easy. Boil the water with salt and cumin seeds. Mix in the medium rava, cook on the stove top and sun dry...that's it! You can get creative by adding spices of your choice like green chilli paste, red chilli flakes, asafoetida, ajwain etc.

Avalakki sandige recipe

Preparation time: 2 - 3 days
Cooking time: 0 min
Serves: 30

Ingredients: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 3 cups thin poha or avalakki
  2. Red chilli flakes or green chilli paste as required
  3. 1/2 tsp carom seeds
  4. 1/4 tsp cooking soda
  5. 1/2 tsp salt or as per your taste

Instructions for making avalakki sandige:

  1. Take 3 cups of thin poha or avalakki in a container.thin poha for avalakki sandige recipe or poha papad
  2. Pour the required water and rinse it quickly.salt for avalakki sandige recipe or poha papad
  3. Drain the water completely.cumin seeds for avalakki sandige recipe or poha papad
  4. Take the rinsed poha or avalakki in a container and add spices of your choice.boiling water for avalakki sandige recipe or poha papad
  5. I have added red chilli flakes and salt.rava for avalakki sandige recipe or poha papad
  6. Also carom seeds (ajwain seeds).batter for avalakki sandige recipe or poha papad
  7. Followed by 1/4 tsp cooking soda.batter for avalakki sandige recipe or poha papad
  8. Mix all the ingredients together using hands.making avalakki sandige recipe or poha papad
  9. Make cylindrical shaped balls.drying avalakki sandige recipe or poha papad
  10. Take ribbon pakoda mould or something similar.drying avalakki sandige recipe or poha papad
  11. Press the sandige or fryum on a plastic sheet or a cloth or a tray.drying avalakki sandige recipe or poha papad
  12. Sun dry it for a day.drying avalakki sandige recipe or poha papad
  13. End of the day, you can easily take it out. Transfer them into a plate.dried avalakki sandige recipe or poha papad
  14. Continue drying for one more day.dried avalakki sandige recipe or poha papad
  15. Once dried, heat the oil and deep fry the sandige. Serve it with lunch or dinner. You can also serve them like evening snacks for kids.fried avalakki sandige recipe or poha papad
