Vidyarthi bhavan style coconut chutney recipe explained with step by step pictures and a video. This vidyarthi bhavan style coconut chutney or kayi chutney is served with dosas and idlies. This is a very tasty chutney recipe prepared using roasted gram, coconut, green chilli, coriander leaves, ginger, salt and tamarind.

Vidyarthi bhavan chutney recipe

Preparation time: 10 min
Cooking time: 5 min
Serves: 4

Ingredients: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 1/2 cup fresh grated coconut
  2. 1/2 cup fried gram or hurigadale or kadle pappu
  3. little tamarind
  4. 4 green chilies (or as per your spice level)
  5. Little coriander leaves
  6. 1cm length ginger
  7. Salt as per your taste

Ingredients for tempering:

  1. 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  2. 1 red chilli
  3. 1 tsp cooking oil
  4. 4 curry leaves

Instructions for making vidyarthi bhavan chutney:

  1. Fry slit green chillies and little coriander leaves by adding a tsp of oil.green chilli and coriander leaves for vidyarthi bhavan style coconut chutney
  2. In a mixie jar take roasted gram or fried gram.roasted gram for vidyarthi bhavan style coconut chutney
  3. Add coconut.coconut for vidyarthi bhavan style coconut chutney
  4. Add fried green chilies and coriander leaves.fried ingredients for vidyarthi bhavan style coconut chutney
  5. Add ginger.ginger for vidyarthi bhavan style coconut chutney
  6. Add salt.salt for vidyarthi bhavan style coconut chutney
  7. Add tamarind paste.tamarind for vidyarthi bhavan style coconut chutney
  8. Make a coarse powder.grinding vidyarthi bhavan style coconut chutney
  9. Add in required water and grind until fine paste.grinding vidyarthi bhavan style coconut chutney
  10. At the end add in little coriander leaves and grind it again.coriander leaves for vidyarthi bhavan style coconut chutney
  11. Transfer the ground chutney into a bowl.ground vidyarthi bhavan style coconut chutney
  12. Temper it with oil, mustard seeds, red chilli and curry leaves. Serve it with dosa or idli.tempering vidyarthi bhavan style coconut chutney
