Beetroot dosa is a very tasty, healthy and crispy dosa recipe prepared using rava, rice flour, wheat flour, beetroot, onion, coconut, curry leaves, coriander leaves, red chilli powder, black pepper and cumin seeds.

Beetroot dosa or dose is an instant breakfast or light dinner recipe. Rava used in this recipe is medium rava or upma rava. You can find more rava or semolina recipes on this website like rave uppittu (rava upma), rava kesari bath, rave unde or rava laddu and rava roti.

I have used well seasoned cast Iron pan. If you do not have cast iron pan, don't worry go ahead with non-stick pan.

This beetroot dosa or beetroot dose is very tasty and healthy. It turns out crispy if cooked for sometime under medium flame. Even though it is crispy, it just melts in your mouth. Or if you don't like crispy dosas, do not cook it for long time. Beetroot dosa recipe should be served hot. You can serve beetroot dosa along with coconut chutney or serve it as it is.

Beetroot dosa recipe

Preparation time: 30 min
Cooking time: 10 min
Serves: 3

Ingredients: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 1/2 cup rice flour
  2. 1/2 cup rava or semolina or sooji
  3. 1 tbsp wheat flour
  4. 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
  5. 1/2 tsp black pepper slightly crushed
  6. 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  7. 1 small sized beetroot grated
  8. 1 small sized onion chopped
  9. 2 tbsp grated coconut
  10. 1 tbsp finely chopped coriander leaves
  11. 1 tbsp finely chopped curry leaves
  12. A pinch of asafoetida (optional)
  13. 2.25 cups water
  14. 5 - 6 tsp oil for making dosa
  15. Salt to taste

Instructions for making beetroot dosa:

  1. Take rava, rice flour and wheat flour in a container.rava and flours for beetroot dosa recipe

  5. Give a quick mix. Prepare a thin batter by adding required water.water, salt and optional ingredients for beetroot dosa recipe

  7. Now heat the cast iron pan (well seasoned) or non-stick pan. Pout the batter and make a thin dosa. Before making each rava dosa, stir the batter very well with the ladle.cast iron pan for beetroot dosa recipe

  9. Open the lid. Drizzle 1 or 2 tsp of oil or ghee. Reduce the flame and allow it to cook on medium flame for few seconds.oil or ghee for beetroot dosa recipe
