Tavare beejada payasa or makhana kheer recipe

Preparation time: 2 min
Cooking time: 10 min
Serves: 3

Ingredients: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 1 cup tavare beeja or makhana or lotus seeds
  2. 2 cups or half litre milk
  3. 1/2 cup sugar (adjust as per your sweet level)
  4. 1 tbsp ghee
  5. 5-6 cashews
  6. 8-10 raisins
  7. few strands of kesar or kesari (optional)
  8. A big pinch of cardamom

Instructions for making tavare beejada payasa or makhana kheer:

  1. To prepare makhan kheer, to begin with heat ghee in a frying pan and fry cashews and raisins until raisins are puffed up. Keep them aside once done.frying cashews and raisins for tavare beeja payasa or makhana kheer
  2. In the same pan, roast the lotus seeds under medium flame until crisp.frying lotus seeds for tavare beeja payasa or makhana kheer
  3. Next powder 2/3rd of the roasted lotus seeds and kep aside 1/3rd of them.fried lotus seeds for tavare beeja payasa or makhana kheer
  4. Next boil the milk in a container.milk for tavare beeja payasa or makhana kheer
  5. Add the 1/3rd of roasted lotus seeds and continue boiling.roasted lotus seeds for tavare beeja payasa or makhana kheer
  6. Add the sugar. Adjust sugar as per your taste.sugar for tavare beeja payasa or makhana kheer
  7. Add the powdered lotus seeds, give a quick mix and continue boiling.powdered lotus seeds for tavare beeja payasa or makhana kheer
  8. Add kesar. Please note, adding kesar is optional.kesar for tavare beeja payasa or makhana kheer
