Onion tomato paratha or masala parota recipe explained with step by step pictures and a video. Masala parata is a very tasty breakfast or light dinner recipe. This masale paratha or chapati can be prepared in very less time. Eerulli tomato paratha is prepared using wheat flour, cumin seeds, onion, tomato, green chilli, curry leaves, coriander leaves, red chilli powder and garam masala.

I have added curry leaves and coriander leaves in this recipe, but you can add any leaves of your choice. You can serve this chapathi any curry or stir fry of your choice. However you serve this paratha as it is, without any accompaniments. Or just serve it with curd. You can prepare it for breakfast or light dinner. You can also serve these to kids as evening snacks. This is a new breakfast recipe and is very healthy.

Onion tomato paratha recipe

Preparation time: 20 min
Cooking time: 15 min
Serves: 8 no

Ingredients for the dough: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 1.5 cups wheat flour
  2. 1 finely chopped onion
  3. 2 finely chopped tomatoes
  4. 1 tsp cumin seeds
  5. 1-2 green chillies finely chopped
  6. 1 tbsp curry leaves
  7. 1 tbsp coriander leaves
  8. Big pinch of turmeric powder
  9. 1/2 tsp carom seeds (Oma or ajwain)
  10. 1/2 tsp garam masala
  11. 1/2 tsp red chilli powder (adjust as per your spice level)
  12. 1 tsp salt or as per your taste
  13. 1 tbsp oil for masala
  14. 1 tbsp oil for dough
  15. 6 - 8 tsp ghee or oil for cooking

Instructions for making veg paratha:

  1. Heat 1 tbsp oil and add in cumin seeds. Wait until cumin seeds splutter.cumin seeds for onion tomato paratha or masala chapati
  2. Add in chopped green chillies and curry leaves.green chillies and curry leaves for onion tomato paratha or masala chapati
  3. Add in chopped onions. Stir until onions turn soft.onions for onion tomato paratha or masala chapati
  4. Add in coriander leaves.coriander leaves for onion tomato paratha or masala chapati
  5. Add in chopped tomatoes, salt and turmeric powder. Stir until tomatoes turn soft.tomato, salt and turmeric for onion tomato paratha or masala chapati
  6. Add in red chilli powder, garam masala and carom seeds.chilli powder, garam masala and carom seeds for onion tomato paratha or masala chapati
  7. Give a quick mix and switch off the stove. Wait until warm.masala for onion tomato paratha or masala chapati
  8. Add in wheat flour.wheat flour for onion tomato paratha or masala chapati
  9. Knead it into a soft dough by adding required water or flour. Add a tbsp of oil.dough for onion tomato paratha or masala chapati
  10. Knead it again and rest it for 10 minutes.dough for onion tomato paratha or masala chapati
  11. Next take the dough and roll it into a paratha. Optionally you can fold it (apply oil before folding) and make it layered.making onion tomato paratha or masala chapati
  12. Roll it again.making onion tomato paratha or masala chapati
  13. Heat the tava or pan and cook the rolled paratha by applying oil or ghee. Serve chapathi or paratha with ketchup or curd or any curry of your choice. cooking onion tomato paratha or masala chapati
