Beans bili huli or huralikayi sambar recipe explained with step by step pictures and a video. This is a unique and tasty beans or hurulikayi sambar is prepared using french beans and fresh ground masala. No roastig in this recipe. Fresh ground masala is prepared using grated coconut, green chilli, soaked gram dal, cumin and mustard seeds. Beans sambar goes very well with rice.

Beans sambar recipe

Preparation time: 5 min
Cooking time: 30 min
Serves: 4

Ingredients: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 1/4 kg french beans
  2. Big pinch turmeric powder
  3. 2 tsp crystal salt (or as per your taste)
  4. 1/2 tsp lemon juice

Ingredients for masala: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 1/2 cup grated coconut
  2. 2 - 4 green chillies
  3. 2 tbsp gram dal or chana dal
  4. 1 tsp jeera or cumin seeds
  5. 1/2 tsp mustard seeds

Ingredients for tempering:

  1. 5 - 6 curry leaves
  2. 1/4 tsp mustard seeds
  3. A pinch of asafoetida
  4. 1 tsp cooking oil

Instruction for making beans sambar:

  1. Pick, remove the fibres, rinse and chop the beans.
  2. Soak gram dal for 1 - 2 hours. Use warm water to reduce the soaking time.gram dal for beans bili huli or huralikayi sambar
  3. In a cooker take chopped beans, 1 tsp salt, pinch of turmeric powder.cooking beans for beans bili huli or huralikayi sambar
  4. And required water, close the lid and cook until soft.water for beans bili huli or huralikayi sambar
  5. Take grated coconut, soaked gram dal, green chillies, cumin seeds and mustard seeds in a mixie jar. Grind it into a paste by adding required water.spices for beans bili huli or huralikayi sambar
  6. Once the beans are cooked, add in ground masala. Keep it for boiling.ground masala for beans bili huli or huralikayi sambar
  7. Adjust the salt as per your taste.salt for beans bili huli or huralikayi sambar
  8. The sambar will turn thick once it starts to boil. So add in a cup of water.water for beans bili huli or huralikayi sambar
  9. Boil it for 2 minutes. Switch off the stove.boiling beans bili huli or huralikayi sambar
  10. Add in lemon juice.lemon juice for beans bili huli or huralikayi sambar
  11. Temper it with oil, mustard seeds and curry leaves. Serve tasty beans sambar with hot rice.tempering beans bili huli or huralikayi sambar
