Avalakki habe kadubu is prepared by steaming the a mixture of soaked beaten rice, dal and spices. Avalakki kadubu or spicy poha and dal dumplings are very tasty.

Avalakki bele kadubu is a very healthy steamed recipe with zero oil. It is a perfect choice for growing kids as well adults. This avalakki kadubu has spices in it, so you can serve it as it is. Or you can pair it with coconut chutney. You can also serve it with a raita called "Hasi Majjige". You can enjoy these tasty dumplings without any accompaniment also. So do try and enjoy!!

Avalakki habe kadubu recipe

Preparation time: 4 hours
Cooking time: 15 min
Serves: 4

Ingredients: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 2 cups medium avalakki or poha (or 1 cup thick poha)
  2. 1/2 cup toor dal
  3. 1/2 cup chana dal
  4. 1 - 2 green chillies
  5. 1/2 inch length ginger
  6. 5 - 6 curry leaves
  7. 2 tbsp coriander leaves
  8. 1/2 cup grated coconut
  9. Salt as per your taste

Instructions for making avalakki habe kadubu:

  1. Soak toor dal and gram dal (chana dal) for 3 - 4 hours.rinse and soak toor dal and channa dal for avalakki habe kadubu or poha dal breakfast
  2. Soak the poha or beaten rice until soft. Soak it for 5 mins if using medium avalakki and soak it for 20 mins if using gatti avalakki.rinse and soak beaten rice for avalakki habe kadubu or poha dal breakfast
  3. Once soaked drain the water and keep it aside.soaked beaten rice for avalakki habe kadubu or poha dal breakfast
  4. Transfer the soaked dals into a mixie jar.soaked dal for avalakki habe kadubu or poha dal breakfast
  5. Add in grated coconut, green chilli and ginger into the mixie jar.coconut, green chili and ginger for avalakki habe kadubu or poha dal breakfast
  6. Coarse grind the ingredients without adding any water. Transfer it into the bowl which has soaked avalakki.ground dal mixture for avalakki habe kadubu or poha dal breakfast
  7. Add in chopped curry leaves, coriander leaves and salt as per taste.curry leaves and coriander leaves for avalakki habe kadubu or poha dal breakfast
  8. Give a good mix by adding required water.mixed ingredients for avalakki habe kadubu or poha dal breakfast
  9. Prepare a soft but stiff dough. I have added around 1/4 cup of water. Iit may turn hard after steaming if the dough is not soft.mixed ingredients for avalakki habe kadubu or poha dal breakfast
  10. Now take a big lemon sized dough and prepare dumplings in your desired shape. Make sure the balls are stiff but soft.preparing dumplings for avalakki habe kadubu or poha dal breakfast
  11. Steam them for 10 minutes and serve them hot.serve avalakki habe kadubu or poha dal breakfast dumplings on idli plate
