Barli ambli or porridge is a very easy and tasty breakfast or light dinner recipe prepared using barley, curd, coriander leaves, hing, onion, green chillies, ginger, curry leaves, mustard, cumin seeds and salt. Mosaru barli or curd barley is a very healthy recipe that makes body cool and has many health benefits.

Ganji is a very soothing and comforting recipe. You can have it for breakfast or lunch or dinner. I have served it with Mango pickle, however you can serve it with any pickle of your choice. You can find one more boiled rice ganji recipe on this website.

Barley ganji recipe

Preparation time: 10 min
Cooking time: 30 min
Serves: 2

Ingredients: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 1/4 cup barley
  2. 1/2 cup curd
  3. Big pinch asafoetida
  4. Some coriander leaves
  5. 1/2 tsp salt or as per taste
  6. pickle (for serving)

Ingredients for tempering:

  1. 2 tsp oil
  2. 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  3. 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  4. 1/2 tsp urad dal
  5. 1 green chilli
  6. 1 tsp chopped ginger
  7. 7 - 8 curry leaves chopped
  8. 1 small onion chopped

Instructions for making barley ganji:

  1. Rinse 1/4 cup barley in a pressure cooker.barley for barley ganji or ambli or porridge recipe
  2. Add 1 cup water (4 times).water for barley ganji or ambli or porridge recipe
  3. Make 4 - 5 whistles to cook until soft. You can soak the barley for 4 - 5 hours for faster cooking.cooked barley for barley ganji or ambli or porridge recipe
  4. Prepare tempering in a pan using oil, mustard seeds, cumin seeds and urad dal. Wait until mustard seeds start to splutter.tempering for barley ganji or ambli or porridge recipe
