Thambittu unde or rice flour ladoo recipe explained with step by step pictures and a video. This type of thambittu is prepared using rice, jaggery and dessicated coconut. Thambittu is a very easy and tasty laddu or unde recipe prepared during gokulashtami or shri krishna janmashtami festival.

In my previous post I have explained the recipe of crispy kodbale. My mother will prepare this thambittu and kodu bale on Lord Krishna's birth day. She says she learnt it from my grandmother.

Hasi thambittu recipe

Preparation time: 1 hour
Cooking time: 30 min
Serves: 16 no.

Ingredients: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 1/2 cup dosa rice or any other raw rice
  2. 1/4 cup grated coconut
  3. 1/2 cup jaggery (I used little less than this)
  4. 1/4 cup water
  5. A big pinch of cardamom

Instructions for making hasi thambittu:

  1. Rinse and soak the rice for 1 hour. After one hour drain the water completely.soak rice for thambittu unde
  2. Dry grind the rice until fine powder.grind rice for thambittu unde
  3. Now sieve the ground rice flour. Grind the remaining coarse rice flour and sieve it again. Like this get fine rice flour. It will be very easy since we have soaked the rice.soak rice for thambittu unde
  4. Fry the coconut and dry grind it. Add in ground coconut and cardamom powder. Mix well and keep it aside.coconut for thambittu unde
  5. Now take 1/2 cup jaggery and little less than 1/4 cup of water in a thick frying pan. And bring it to boil.jaggery for thambittu unde
  6. Boil until you get one string or soft ball consistency. Switch off the stove.jaggery syrup for thambittu unde
  7. Immediately add in rice flour and coconut mixture.rice flour for thambittu unde
  8. Mix the rice flour well such that you get a soft lump. Immediately make small lemon sized balls.dough for thambittu unde
