Sorekai dose or bottle gourd dosa recipe explained with step by step pictures and video. Sorekai dose is prepared using rice, urad dal, fenugreek seeds and chopped bottle gourd. This is a very easy, healthy and comforting dosa recipe. Sorekai dose is familiar by different names like lauki dosa, dudhi dosa and sorakkai dosa. Sorekai dose can be served with coconut chutney or sambar.

Sorekai or bottle gourd is very good for health. It has been regarded as one of the healthiest vegetables. Bottle gourd cools your body, helps in weight loss, cures stomach problems and urinary infections. It keeps the heart healthy and relieves the stress.

In this sorekai dosa recipe, I have used less urad dal. Bottle gourd gives the required softness to the dosa. However if you want the dosa to be more soft, then either increase the urad dal quantity or add beaten rice (avalakki).

Sorekai dose recipe

Preparation time: 14 hours
Cooking time: 30 min
Serves: 4

Ingredients: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 1 cup dosa rice
  2. 2 cup chopped sorekai or bottle gourd
  3. 3 - 4 tbsp urad dal
  4. 1 tsp fenugreek seeds
  5. 0 - 1/4 cup beaten rice or avalakki
  6. Ghee or oil for cooking
  7. Salt as per your taste

Instructions for making sorekai dose:

  1. Take rice, urad dal and fenugreek seeds in a container. Soak it for 4 - 5 hours.rice and dal for sorekai dose or bottle gourd dosa
  2. After soaking, drain the water and transfer the soaked ingredients into a mixie jar. Soak and add beaten rice (avalakki) to make the dosa soft.soaked rice and dal for sorekai dose or bottle gourd dosa
  3. Grind until fine batter by adding required water. Transfer it into a container.batter for sorekai dose or bottle gourd dosa
  4. Next take chopped bottle gourd in the same jar. Please note, I have peeled and deseeded the bottle gourd. However if the bottle gourd is tender, you need not peel it or deseed it.chopped bottle gourd for sorekai dose or bottle gourd dosa
  5. Grind until fine without adding water. Transfer it into the same container.batter for sorekai dose or bottle gourd dosa
  6. Mix the batter well. Close the lid and rest it for 7 - 8 hours in a warm place for fermentation.fermenting for sorekai dose or bottle gourd dosa
  7. After fermentation, open the lid and add the required salt. Give a quick mix. The batter shall have regular urad dosa batter consistency.salt for sorekai dose or bottle gourd dosa
  8. Now heat the dosa pan and grease it. I used cast iron pan. You can use any dosa pan. Pour a laddle full of batter and spread it in a circular way.making sorekai dose or bottle gourd dosa
  9. Close the lid for 5 - 10 seconds. Allow it to cook under medium flame.cooking sorekai dose or bottle gourd dosa
  10. Open the lid, drizzle some oil, fold the dosa and take it out. Serve it with any chutney of your choice.cooked sorekai dose or bottle gourd dosa
