Menthe tambuli or menthya tambli recipe explained with step by step pictures and a video. Menthe thambli is a very easy and tasty sidedish for rice or ragi mudde. It can be prepared in just 10 minutes. Menthe thambli or tambli is prepared using red chilli (or pepper), methi seeds, cumin seeds, curd and coconut.

As I have mentioned in my earlier posts, sasive and thambli are curd or yoghurt based gravy recipes. Sasive is a small side dish in a multi coarse meal. Sasive is generally prepared by grinding coconut, chili and mustard.

Menthe tambuli recipe

Preparation time: 5 min
Cooking time: 5 min
Serves: 4

Ingredients: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 2 red chillies or 1 tsp black pepper
  2. 1 tsp methi seeds or fenugreek seeds
  3. 1 tsp cumin seeds
  4. 1/2 cup grated coconut
  5. 1/2 cup curd or 1 cup buttermilk
  6. 1 tsp salt or as per your taste.
  7. 1 tsp ghee or oil

Ingredients for tempering: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 1 red chili
  2. 1 tsp cooking oil
  3. 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  4. Pinch of asafoetida
  5. Few curry leaves

Instructions for making menthe tambuli:

  1. Heat ghee or oil in a pan. And add in red chilli, methi seeds and cumin seeds.ghee, red chilli, mustard and cumin for menthe tambuli or menthya tambli
  2. Roast under low flame until cumin seeds starts to splutter. Switch off the stove.roasting ingredients for menthe tambuli or menthya tambli
  3. Take grated coconut in a mixie jar. Add in roasted ingredients.coconut for menthe tambuli or menthya tambli
  4. Also add in salt.salt for menthe tambuli or menthya tambli
  5. Grind until fine by adding required water.grinding for menthe tambuli or menthya tambli
  6. Add in curd or butter milk. Grind it for a while. Or just pulse it for few times.curd for menthe tambuli or menthya tambli
  7. Transfer ground paste into the bowl.grinding for menthe tambuli or menthya tambli
  8. Add in required water. Please note, thambli shall have thin consistency. Also adjust the salt as per your taste. You can add little jaggery if you like it that way.water for menthe tambuli or menthya tambli
  9. Temper it with oil, mustard seeds, cumin seeds and red chili. Serve it with hot steaming ricetempering menthe tambuli or menthya tambli
